This space is for members of the EBV community involved in sharing with and helping the Escuela Icotea.
Grade 12 students raise funds for this Elementary school across the lake in order to help them ensure primary education for the children of the farm workers in a small community.
The opportunity to work with this school was brought to us by the Monaco family when all of them spent one Semana Santa helping refurbish the little school, and shared with us their pictures of what they did. When asked they gladly agreed to take us there to see what more we could do. Since then it has become a twice-a-year tradition for Grade 12 to take a whole Saturday trip to this Escuela. Funds raised through the semester are used to get necessary items for the school, the teachers and the students. Before the trip Grade 12 students plan and prepare what to take and do there.
So food is bought / prepared, games and activities are organized.
In a loaded coaster about 15 - 20 students with advisers / teachers go across the lake and spend a day playing, eating, dancing and doing fun activities with the little ones of Escuela Icotea!
A time to share, to enjoy the simple pleasures of life in the country, to wholeheartedly give of your time and effort and to bring shy smiles to the faces of 5, 6, 7-year-olds, makes the day a very special one.
